Brittany Update:

 Construction Updates:

No Additional Updates, all projects are still ongoing.

Area Closures:

• If a Habitat is Closed and it is not listed on “The Daily” – Send me an e-mail so I can contact Visitor Experience and make sure we add it.

Animal Updates: 

• Africa

  • Fritz: NO ADDITIONAL UPDTES FROM LAST WEEK
    • A few updates that I wanted to share with everybody. Bibi/Fritz/Fiona = BFF
      • Stanchions
        
        • Things with Fiona and Bibi/Fritz have slowly progressed to a small extent, and I feel we can safely remove the stanchions from the equation on slower days
        • Stanchions will be removed on the Weekdays but will still be put in place on the weekends
      • Stroller Parking
        • Stroller Parking Sign has been removed and placed behind the Painted Dog Gate
      • Wild Encounters Staffing
        • We will no longer staff the weekdays with Wild Encounters Interpreters
        • On weekends we will still aim to staff an interpreter when BFF are out together
      • Schedule of the indomitable Fritz
        • Reminder of scheduling:
          • Tucker/Fiona out for the morning on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday
          • Non-tour days we aim to get BFF out in the mornings
          • We’re now working towards increasing the amount of time BFF are together on exhibit
            • If they’re out in the morning, look for a swap in the early afternoon
            • If they’re out in the afternoon they may swap at the last possible moment in the day.
      • Volunteers
        • We will no longer be asking for additional Volunteers in Hippo Cove through the week.
        • When we have Ambassadors in Africa, I think it is still a good idea to have someone around Hippo to answer visitor questions.
        • I will be adding extra weekend shifts to the schedule specifically to help with Fritz shifts.  I will verify the shift times with Eric before I load them in MVP.

  • Gorilla Troop Configurations:  Ndume, M’Linzi & Mara — Chewie, Gladys, Mona & Elle – “The Chew Crew” — Mshindi, Bandia & Tulivu

• Additional Information
  • Moe is Back in the Education Building!!!
  • Six Banded Armadillos have been introduced for breeding.
  • A pair of African Penguins have 2 eggs on a nest ni their habitat.
  • One of the male Okapis from Mast Farm will be brought into the Veldt for breeding.  The male Okapi’s name is Kiloro.
  • Our 3 Manatees will be heading to Florida in early October
  • Erkenbrecher Avenue will be closed on October 24th-26th to set the bridge.  The bridge is set to be open by the start of Festival of Lights.

Scooter Pals:

If you see a scooter pal not on the “Main Loop” please ask the guest to return to the main

• Let the guest know they are not permitted in that area for our animal’s wellbeing.
• Show them the main loop again- some folks don’t know what the main loop is!
• If an animal is showing signs of distress get the Pal away from the area.
  • Call Security so they can Notify the Keepers, Welcome Center, and Rocky immediately.
  • Notify Security immediately if a guest is unruly or refuses to move.  Walk away out of earshot of the Visitor before you call.

If a visitor is having a problem with one, please call Security and have them alert the Welcome Center.
