Hello Horticulture Volunteers!
It’s official—the season has begun! With April showers comes… well, a lot of work in the garden! Now that our volunteer education sessions are complete, we welcome and encourage all horticulture volunteers to help us “Inspire People with Plants Everyday.” In the next few weeks we will be:
- Cleaning up Garden Beds & Naturalized Areas
- Keeping the gardens in prime conditions for Tunes ‘n Blooms
- Planting Annual Plugs at the Greenhouse in Kentucky
- Getting our Nursery on site up and running for the season
- Beginning our Garden Education season
- Potting, planting, and getting accustomed to the new facilities at Bowyer
So, for those of you who are new, what are the next steps? Come join us!
If you are volunteering in the garden on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays please call the volunteer hotline 559-8307 on the day that you are planning to volunteer. The message is usually left by 7:30 am and will provide information about where we will be meeting and what we will be doing. It will also indicate any workday cancelations as well. Remember to park in the Dury parking lot and utilize pedestrian entrances to access the zoo. If you have questions, feel free to contact me via email at [email protected].
If you are volunteering in the garden on Saturdays please contact Deb Zureick at [email protected] so that she can add you to the email list. The Saturday group is scheduled to start on Saturday, April 7th. Be sure to check the volunteer hotline at 559-8307 on Saturday morning to hear information about where to meet, what you will be doing, and if there has been a last minute cancelation.
