Tosh’s 4/27 Update

Hello Horticulture Volunteers,

What a fantastic spring!  Despite what Mother Nature throws at us, the blooms have truly been outstanding this season.  As May approaches, I’m sure we will see more of the floral bounty found within our garden gates.  Listed below are a few notes about upcoming Spring events as well as some additional announcements.

May 3 – Horticulture Education Session

May 12 – Native Plant Sale

May 19 – Pollinator Carnival – details TBA

Logging Hours

Now that we are getting into the swing of the season, I wanted to check in to see if anyone is having trouble logging their hours into MVP.  Please let me know if you are experiencing any issues whilst trying to enter hours so that we can alleviate any issues early in the season.

Tickets for Symposiums – selling out quickly

Scott asked me to mention that if you are interested in attending either of the remaining 2018 symposiums that you get your tickets early.  Tickets for the Plant Trials Symposium in August are heavily sold  and the Native Plant Symposium in November is likely to sell out early as well.  The Volunteer Rate for tickets to these symposiums is $30.  To get this rate use the codes ptd18vol for the Plant Trials Day and nps18vol for the Native Plant Symposium when purchasing tickets online.  You may also purchase tickets from the desk in the lobby in the Education Building.

Details for each symposium can be found online via the following link:

Native Plant Sale

Saturday, May 12th from 9 am to 12pm at EcOhio Wetland (Bowyer Wetland & Native Plant Nursery)  Location: 2210 N. Mason Montgomery Road in Warren County

This is a great opportunity to see the wetland and native plant nursery while finding a great selection of plants to purchase your personal gardens.  There will be two additional native plant sales later in the year as well.

Horticulture Volunteer Education Session for May – Native Orchids of the Eastern US

Thursday, May 3rd  from 12:30 – 2pm at the Safari Lodge

Explore Native Orchids of the Eastern US with Brian Jorg!  This month’s Horticulture Volunteer Education session will delve into the mysterious world of native orchids.  Not only will you be awed by Brian’s fantastic plant photos, but his knowledge of native flora will be sure to impress.  This will be an expanded version of the popular chat that Brian gave for the Volunteer Orientation at the end of March – so even if you were in attendance there, you will be sure to hear something new.

Please sign up for this event via MVP using the instructions listed below.  If you are unable to sign up via MVP you may still attend, but it is a good idea to practice signing up for activities so that we work out the kinks before it counts.  Please let me know if you are unable to sign up via MVP and we will try to work out any issues you may be having.
