Monarch Butterfly Tagging at EcOhio

Hello Everyone!

On Sunday September 16th from 12:00-3:00 we will be hosting a monarch butterfly tagging MOJO event at the Bowyer Farm, and you are all invited!

Every fall monarch butterflies migrate from the eastern US and Canada to their overwintering site in Mexico. Along the way volunteers catch the butterflies and place a tag with a serial number on their hindwing to help researchers understand more about their migration pattern (especially as it relates to changes in climate and habitat). You can learn more here about Monarch Watch. We will provide all the tags and a dozen or so nets, but we need your help to catch as many butterflies as possible! Attached is a flyer that Shasta put together for our FCS tagging event the following weekend that has lots of great information. Since we limited the FCS event to 50 people, and it’s already full, we wanted to give employees a chance to come out and join in the fun on a separate day. If you’ve never been to a monarch tagging event it is an absolute blast!

Please bring your butterfly nets if you have any and be sure to wear close-toed shoes and long pants – and don’t forget to bring along your water bottle to stay hydrated while chasing butterflies.

The EcOhio Farm is located at 2210 Mason-Montgomery Road, Lebanon, OH 45036

We’ll see you there!
