Party for the Planet, the Zoo’s annual Earth Day Celebration, is just a week away! Thursday, April 19th from 4:00-8: 30 pm. The Tillers will be on stage for Tunes & Blooms, the weather will be wonderful, and over 30 exhibitors will be on hand to share ways and resources for living green in the Queen City.
In addition, there are 40+ beautifully painted rain barrels in the Go Green Garden right now that are up for auction. Need a Mother’s Day gift? Perhaps a housewarming present? Or want to treat yourself? Please bid now! The online auction will run through 8 pm the night of Party for the Planet. All proceeds from the rain barrel auction will support environmental education. Installing a rain barrel in your yard can save you up to 1000 gallons of water per summer, and diverts rainwater from heading to the sewer system. Stormwater runoff is one of our region’s biggest environmental challenges, and this is one easy way to help ease the load a little bit. And the barrels are colorful masterpieces! Please check them out and bid, and encourage your friends to bid.
