Hi, Zoo Family,
I am excited to announce the Plant for Pollinators Challenge! An initiative of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden’s Pollen Nation program, this public engagement campaign aims to increase pollinator habitat in the urban landscape by inspiring people to plant for pollinators and register their gardens at www.cincinnatizoo.org/plant-for-pollinators. This first year, our goal is to register at least 500 pollinator gardens in Greater Cincinnati.
We’re asking for your help in three ways:
1) If you already have an existing pollinator garden, please register it. You can also order an optional yard sign to place in your registered garden.
2) If you don’t already grow pollinator-friendly plants in your yard, consider taking the Challenge yourself. It’s easy to do and makes a big difference for our pollinator friends as they do their job to keep our environment healthy. All the steps and guidelines for planning your garden, choosing the best plants, and registering your garden are on the web page.
3) Share the Challenge with Zoo guests, family and friends during your interactions on grounds, at home, and on social media. We will have pocket guides that people can take with them when shopping for the best plants for pollinators; recommended plants are based on CZBG’s 25 years of plant trials. (Guides are scheduled to arrive from the printer next week.)
Thank you for helping reach our goal of registering at least 500 gardens in 2019!
Yours,
Shasta R. Bray
